Travel Map

Generally speaking, I recommend planning at least 5 to 8 days for a Kansai trip. First-timers often opt for a 5-day, 4-night itinerary focusing on Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara (for example, 2 days in Osaka, 2 days in Kyoto, and 1 day in Nara). However, if you would like to include Kobe, Himeji, Universal Studios Japan, Wakayama, or deeper off-the-beaten-path day trips, planning at least 7 to 8 days or more will let you travel at a much more relaxed, enjoyable pace.

Depending on your trip length and personal travel style, everyone's ideal stops will differ. Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara offer countless incredible places to explore, so I have pinned them all into a dedicated Google Map, featuring Kansai's top attractions, recommended hotels, and handy travel highlights. It is a portable travel tool you can take right on your phone—feel free to save and share it!

The Kansai region's four big cities—Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara—are wonderful destinations for independent travelers, brimming with exquisite cuisine, rich traditions, lively seasonal festivals, and stunning scenery. Each season brings its own magic, and even after visiting many times, there is always something new to uncover. I hope this guide helps you find your own favorite rhythm and fully enjoy an incredible Kansai getaway!
