Brisbane City Free Loop Bus Services: Complete Guide to Routes, Timetables & Map!

Free Loops︱Brisbane Free Bus Services.

I previously shared a Comprehensive Public Transportation Guide covering Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast. This post covers a special "bonus chapter" outside standard transit fares—the Brisbane City Free Loop Buses, which are completely free and require no tickets, Go Cards, or tapping on and off!

While downtown Brisbane isn't as sprawling as some mega-metropolises and many attractions are walkable, this service is a thoughtful option if you want to save time and energy, or if you're traveling with seniors or little ones. Below is a detailed breakdown of all three free bus routes!

◎ Route 40 (Red Line) & Route 50 (Orange Line)

These two routes are essentially twin sister services running along very similar paths around Brisbane's triangular CBD perimeter. The key difference is direction: Route 40 travels clockwise, while Route 50 runs anti-clockwise. Below is the route map and list of stops:

◎ Timetables

Route 40 (Red Line): Monday to Friday, runs every 10 minutes between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. No service on weekends or public holidays.
Route 50 (Orange Line): Monday to Friday, runs every 10 minutes between 7:05 AM and 6:05 PM. No service on weekends or public holidays.

(Although officially classified as Red and Orange lines, the actual bus exterior might not always be painted in that color. Always check the route destination screen! However, the bus stop signs are always distinctly red or purple, so spotting a red or purple sign anywhere in Brisbane CBD means you can hop on for free!)

◎ Route 30 (Yellow Line) — Spring Hill Loop

Unlike the two downtown loops above, this route circulates between the Brisbane CBD and Spring Hill. Since many budget-friendly hotels and serviced apartments are located in Spring Hill, this service saves tourists plenty of walking up and down hilly streets! Here is the route map and list of stops:

Saturday & Sunday: Operates between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, roughly every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 20 minutes off-peak.

(The Route 30 free bus is a newer addition. Its designated bus stops are bright yellow, whereas regular paid bus stops are blue. Make sure you don't confuse them!)

◎ Integrated Google Map

Worried about finding stops or forgetting the routes while exploring? Don't worry! Below is an integrated Google Map marking all free loop bus routes and key stops—a handy travel companion to keep on your phone!

These three free bus services connect many of Brisbane's top sightseeing spots, including Queen Street and Brisbane City Hall. When visiting Brisbane, take full advantage of these complimentary resources—they save you time, energy, and money!
