Ginowan Seaside Park — A laid-back coastal retreat cherished by Okinawa locals.
When traveling to central Okinawa, most visitors head straight for famous spots like American Village, Ryukyu Mura, or Cape Manzamo. However, tucked between the central coast and Naha City lies a delightful recreational area beloved by local residents: Ginowan Seaside Park.
What usually comes to mind when you think of a park?
Perhaps athletic fields, playground equipment for kids, or lush landscaped gardens? In Okinawa, beyond these standard park features, many parks also boast their own beautiful beaches! Spots like Chatan Park and Araha Park are prime examples. Ginowan Seaside Park, which I'm introducing today, is home to the popular Tropical Beach, as well as the premier venue for concerts and performances, the Okinawa Convention Center.
◎ Ginowan Seaside Park
Ginowan Seaside Park is a versatile destination featuring sandy beaches, stunning ocean vistas, and abundant sports and recreational facilities for local residents. Nearby, you'll also find the upscale resort hotel Laguna Garden Hotel and a modern shopping complex, Ginowan Convention City San-e. It serves as the commercial and tourism hub of the area, making it an excellent stop for shopping! On this visit, I explored the area by bicycle. The streetscapes along the central coastal road are scenic and relaxed—free from towering skyscrapers and peacefully unhurried, offering the ultimate relaxing escape!

◎ Tropical Beach
The most relaxing spot in the entire park!
Whenever you travel around Okinawa, I highly recommend always being prepared for a swim. As you explore, you'll frequently stumble upon breathtaking beaches—some well-known, others delightful impromptu surprises. It would be a real shame not to dive in and unwind! From Tropical Beach, you can gaze out towards the distant coastline of American Village and Chatan Town. The beach is fully equipped with facilities, where many locals gather for beach BBQs or ball games. The designated swimming area is safe and calm, making it wonderful for families with children too!

◎ Multipurpose Plaza
In the heart of Ginowan Seaside Park lies a vast, open grassy expanse where local citizens come to enjoy their leisure time. On special occasions, grand events and festivals are hosted right here. A ring of lush trees borders the field, creating a natural, shaded walking loop. Even doing nothing at all, just lounging around here feels incredibly rejuvenating!
♁ Opening Hours: 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM
♁ Closed: Open daily year-round

(Looking outward from the park grounds, you can spot several oceanfront hotels, which speaks volumes about the incredible coastal views and convenient amenities of this area!)
(Panoramic view of the multipurpose plaza, the largest open lawn area in the park)
(Taking a photo to capture the memory in this gorgeous park!)
(Several elevated vantage points within the park offer sweeping views over Okinawa's western sea)
(Inside the park stands a soaring sculptural tower dedicated to "Coexistence." Three decades ago, Ginowan officially declared its anti-war and nuclear-free vision to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Okinawa's reversion to Japan and promote peace throughout the Pacific. Passing through Ginowan, you'll frequently see slogans advocating peace and nuclear disarmament.)
◎ Okinawa Convention Center
While not a conventional sightseeing spot, the Okinawa Convention Center regularly hosts music concerts, theatrical performances, and major corporate or civic conventions. On the day I visited, numerous tour buses filled the parking lot as groups of students wrapped up an event inside. On quiet days it may seem low-key, so I suggest checking their schedule and visiting when an exciting event is taking place!
