Bruny Island|Day trip Itinerary
Bruny Island is one of the most iconic and must-see attractions in Tasmania, Australia. As I had already experienced a two-day tour in depth on the first visit to Bruny Island, I have decided to join a day trip tour this time to make my trip easier. I’d like to review the day trip itinerary of Bruny Island and share relevant information for those who plan to visit.
(The Bruny Island gourmet, cruise and beautiful scenery are the reasons why people visit the island. I will recommend everyone to visit over and over )
1. Pennicott Wilderness Journeys
If you search for "Bruny Island Day Tour", there is a high chance that you will see the name of "Pennicott Wilderness Journeys" because this is the local company that specialises in "Bruny Island" in Tasmania, and it is the largest tour company in Tasmania with history and wide range of tours.
As for their Bruny Island Day Trip itinerary, there are two types: “Bruny Island Traveller” and “Bruny Island Cruise”. However, from my previous experience, it would be a great pity to visit Bruny Island without taking a cruise, seeing the magnificent cliffs and wild animals. Currently, cruise tours are divided into three types.
The first tour is a 3-hour cruise. You need to arrive at the ferry port on Bruny Island by yourself, no meal included, adult price is $145 AUD, cruising time and details as above.
The second tour is a day trip that starts from Kettering, the port of Tasmania, and includes a guided bus tour and cruises on Bruny Island. It is actually an extension of the previous one, with brunch included, and the price for adults is $160 AUD.
The third one is a day trip from Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. It includes transportation to Kettering port, guided bus tour, ferry crossing and also brunch included. Simply put, it's the most ultimate one, and the price for an adult is $235 AUD.
As our accommodation was in Hobart, and considering that the cruise itself already costs $145 AUD, if you add $90 AUD, you can save on car hire, fuel, brunch, ferry fare to Bruny Island, time, etc.. so I personally think the third option is the most cost effective and recommended. But if you happen to be on the island, or you can drive near the port of the island, you can consider the first two, depending on your itinerary.
"Alternatively, you can also look for bookings such as the 'Bruny Island Sightseeing Tour + Cruise' on the travel website KKday, which is actually the same company's itinerary and sometimes it has cheaper deals and discount points to use and so on, FYI."
2. Bruny Island Day trip
Now that we know all the types of day trips, we'll share with you what we actually did to get to know more about Bruny Island!
(Checked in at 7:30am, the Pennicott Wilderness Journeys office is right next to the city harbour in Hobart, which is also a famous tourist attraction. It's really nice to see this view in the morning)
(After check-in, you can wait at the entrance, the bus is already parked outside. Before boarding, the tour guide will explain the itinerary of the day trip to Bruny Island and the relevant information)
(About an hour later, you will arrive at Kettering to take the ferry to Bruny Island. The ferry here is very convenient, as the whole car goes on the ferry, so you don't have to get off at all. You can still get off and enjoy the scenery and take photos outside if you would like to. It is only about 15 minutes of sailing time)
(After landing on the island, you will first visit the important attraction of "Bruny Island". I think the most classic and recommended must-see attraction on land is the superb "The Neck". You can stand on the observation deck at the top of the hill and see the whole of Sandy Point and the bay, as well as the north and south islands of Bruny Island, which is still unforgettable even after a second visit)
(After that, we will go to the restaurant for morning tea. It provides a cup of black tea, milk, coffee, bread, etc. Every seat is already prepared, so you can enjoy the food as soon as you sit down.)
(Now it is the highlight of this day trip! We are getting ready for a three-hour cruise. Before departure, the tour guides explain the flow of the day and provide wind and waterproof jackets. I highly recommend everyone to wear enough clothes. It will be around 10 degrees on the cruise even during summer.)
(Once out at sea, you will reach the southeast coast of the South Bruny National Park, enjoying over 200m cliffs, which are the highest sea cliffs in Australia. You can only feel the magnificence when you see it with your eyes.)
(One of the things I liked about this day trip was that the tour guide encouraged people to speak up if they spotted any wildlife. It was a very flexible cruise, and we were lucky enough to see wild whales and dolphins.)
(During the second half of the tour, you can see the group of adorable seals resting, feeding and playing on the shore. This was also one of the highlights of the day trip, as it was really close and you could see what seals look like clearly.)
(After the 3 hour long cruise, we returned to the restaurant for lunch. There are two options for lunch, but they only have seafood options. But in fact, Tasmania is famous for its seafood so we had a great time)
(After a good meal, it was time to head back to the port in Hobart. It was a fulfilling day out and I really enjoyed visiting Bruny Island again!)
That’s a wrap! I'm glad I was able to spend a day touring around Bruny Island and share the day trip with you all.
If there's one thing I'd recommend, it's to be prepared with seasickness pills (they're actually given on the boat), otherwise it's a shame to miss out on all the beauty of nature and cute little wildlife!
